Which Nikon is right for me?

In my photo cl we use a Nikon D40. I'm thinking of buying a Nikon, but I'm stuck. I want one that is relatively inexpensive but good. I don't need a super professional camera. I was thinking of getting a D60 but then I saw the D5000. Now I can't decide (not just between these two). Please help me. If you have a Nikon, tell me what you like and the drawbacks of it. Please help me!
