A filling my electric kettle with water question ?

Its not the volume of the water that makes the difference, its the pressure - it is at a high pressure when it comes out of the tap (so it forces its way back up the spout of the kettle), but it quickly loses pressure as it leaves the tap - so, when it falls into the kettle further away from the tap, it goes down the spout quickly enough to prevent overflow.
