Upgrade desktop computer memory? I have an Inspiron 400 zino HD?

it came with 2 units of memory my norton says I need more. I called dell. this unit can handle 8 units. i use it for email, facebook, yahoo and POGO. Pogo cuts me off often. will an upgrade help that? How much should it cost?
