Does poor weather affect high definition broadcasts the same way it affects standard definition broadcasts?

I watch digital broadcast television on a standard definition television. Whenever the weather is very bad outside, like a snowstorm, it affects the broadcast quality, ie. snowy reception! Will having a high definition television, to receive high definition broadcasts, prevent this?
