Strange phone call with my boyfriend - should I ask him about it?

I saw my boyfriend today and he asked me to call him to say goodnight, so I did. It's a nightly routine - nothing new. But when I called and casually asked him what he was doing, he said he didn't know and then awkwardly blurted out something about a sports show he was watching. He sounded really preoccupied which isn't normal. Then, a couple minutes into our conversation I thought I heard a woman's laughter momentarily in the background. This happened twice. I didn't bring it up though I wish I had. Should I ask him about it? His preoccupied manner and the laughter I thought I heard?
